Join us to celebrate Her Art/Their Art 2024. This exhibition will showcase the work of nearly 60 artists, including a short dance performance by choreographer Kaitlyn Gardner.

The experience of identifying, living, and navigating society as a woman or non-binary femme in America is a multifaceted journey. This show serves as a powerful medium to illustrate and celebrate these artists as they bring together family, careers, activism, and artistic passions.

This exhibition is in partnership with UMKC Women's Center and co-curated with Natasha Ria El Scari (UMKCWC Director, Owner of Natasha Ria Art Gallery and Founder of Black Space Black Art).

Art School KC & Ben Yisrael present: “salon of the indigenous gods”, an Art Exhibition featuring painting, mixed media visual art, music, and spoken word poetry celebrating the culture of Indigenous peoples. Featuring poet and multimedia artist Ben Yisrael and original art from local KC artists Saint Leon and Feliz Kehinde.

The Exhibition highlights the lives of Indigenous power figures spanning 4000 years. In this exhibition, Indigenous is defined as People originating from the First Nations of the Americas and the Continent Commonly Called Africa.

For over 400 years, Western and European educational and political establishments have orchestrated a disinformation campaign to erase and undermine the real history of Indigenous cultures in the United States and around the world. Colonization has ushered in an era in which the true origins of civilization have been obscured. In this exhibition, we bring light to the curators of culture and civilization.

It would have been impossible to establish the myth of White Supremacy without first renaming, recoding, and misclassifying many of the Indigenous Architects of world civilization.

One such example is the State of Virginia’s “Racial Integrity Act” which passed in 1924. The Act called for only 2 racial categories, “White” and “Colored.” This included the reclassification of indigenous tribes. In 1930, Virginia recorded 779 Native Americans. By 1940, that number had been reduced to 198. In effect, Native Americans were being erased as a group from official records and RE-CLASSIFIED AS “COLORED PEOPLE.”

The classification of colored or black are terms that were used intentionally to obscure nation, language, and culture. salon of the indigenous gods highlights and acknowledges figures through the prism of Indigenous interpretation without respect for Western critique.

Heritage, culture, and the birthright of our people to name and define our own identity and heroes is the spirit of this exhibition. salon of the indigenous gods is in Praise of Indigenous leaders that shaped the course of world history, past, current, and future.

The exhibit will take place on the evening of February 02, 2023 at Art School KC in downtown Lee’s Summit, MO. The gallery exhibit will feature poet and multimedia artist Ben Yisrael and local Kansas City area African American artists in celebration of Black History Month.

This exhibit will facilitate opportunities to push the conversation of cultural awareness through art and connection.

Come and celebrate art, culture, & history at this FREE event! Some refreshments will be provided.
